Fin Min amends budget speech under UML pressure

KATHMANDU, JUL 16 - Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat has amended his budget speech after the ruling coalition partner CPN-UML decided to vote against the budget.
Minister Mahat informed about the revisions made in the budget during a meeting of Legislature-Parliament on Thursday. 
According to the revision made in the budget, a stadium will be constructed at Lakhanpur in Jhapa district in the name of late communist leader Madan Bhandari. “Madan Bhandari is our national leader,” said Mahat, while addressing the dissatisfaction expressed by the UML, “We had no intent to demean him.”
In his budget speech on Tuesday, Mahat had announced to construct separate trauma centers in the name of UML’s former General Secretary Bhandari and lawmaker from Baglung constituency Hari Khadka.
The minister also said UML introduced programme ‘Make your own village (Afno Gaun Afai Banau)’ will be added in the budget along with Rural Independency programme.
Similarly, leader Mahat also informed that the budget was not unilaterally proposed by him but brought after discussions from several quarters.
