RAUTAHAT, JUL 20 - Cadres of Madhes-based parties hurled chairs at CPN-UML senior leaderMadhav Kumar Nepal during a programme organised to collect public opinion on the preliminary draft of the new constitution in Gaur, Rautahat on Monday.
In the programme organised at conference hall of Gaur municipality this morning, Sadbhawana Party (SP) supporters protested and attacked the former Prime Minister. Some SP cadres resorted to stone-pelting during the process.
The agitated leaders of Madhes-based parties alleged leader Nepal of starting the discussion on the draft constitution, amid high security and allowing only few selected people to participate in the process.
Meanwhile, leader Nepal and other lawmakers are being held under high security inside the municipality office.
The dissenting parties started chanting slogans soon after deliberations on the draft constitution started. The cadres of Madhes-based parties became agitated after SP Chairman Anil Kumar Jha was allegedly barred from participating in the discussion.
The situation escalated after other leaders of Madhes-based parties demanded that they too be included in the discussion.
The police had to fire few rounds of teargas so as to control the situation.
Meanwhile, SP leader Seikh Jamshed said that they will not allow the drafting of an anti-Madhes constitution.
