POKHARA, JUL 20 - Nepali Congress (NC) vice president Ram Chandra Poudel has termed the campaign to collect public opinion on the preliminary draft of the new constitution as a gimmick. He said that it was impossible and impractical to collect public opinions in two days saying that the campaign is pretentious.
Talking to media persons at Pokhara Airport on Monday, leader Poudel said that it is unusual that the new constitution is being drafted through fast-track.
The NC vice president is heading towards his home town Tanahu to collect public opinion on the draft constitution.
Leader Poudel said that only fulfilling the procedure is not enough saying that a report must be prepared after studying the collected opinions and suggestions which should then be thoroughly discussed and altercated at the Constituent Assembly before finalising the constitution.
“Collecting opinions and suggestions is not sufficient, they must be studied thoroughly and extensive alterations must be made in the draft to finalise the constitution,” said Poudel, “The billions of substantial investments made in this great plan, human resource and mobilization of resources must not be wasted. This campaign is just a gimmick of few leaders.”
NC vice president Poudel said that the collection of opinions and suggestion in a hurry only seems to be a gimmickry. “What difference does it make if we postpone the date by one week,” he said, “The collected suggestions cannot be bundled-up and stored without even looking at it. But it seems that is what will happen of the public opinions.”
Similarly, leader Poudel said that the delineation of states could be resolved without a hitch if the parties were willing to give up their stand.
