Let everyone be included in the new constitution, Modi says
- NEW DELHI, JUL 17 - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his happiness over the winding up of peace process and constitution writing task in Nepal. PM Modi said India has its good wishes that the new “constitution be promulgated in Nepal with maximum consensus.”
- During his meeting with former Prime Minister of Nepal and UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal at his residence in 7 Race Course in New Delhi on Friday, PM Modi reiterated that it would be best for Nepal to draft a constitution by incorporating all sides.
- “We are well aware about your party’s role in the peace process and constitution writing task of Nepal,” Modi told Dahal, “India will extend its support in the task of taking the peace process to conclusion.”
- According to a source privy to the development, Chairman Dahal drew the attention of Indian premier on the controversial trade agreement forged between India and China regarding Nepali territory at Lipulekh.
- Dahal was accompanied by his wife Sita Dahal, aide Shiva Khakurel and Anil Kumar Pathak, during the meeting that lasted for about half-an-hour. Modi was accompanied by Foreign Secretary for India S Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, among other officials.
- Earlier in the day, Dahal had also held meeting with Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
- It is learnt that no diplomats, including Nepali Ambassador Deep Kumar Upadhyay, from Delhi-based Nepali embassy, were present in the meeting.
- Dahal is scheduled to meet Indian President Pranab Mukherjee later today.
