KATHMANDU, AUG 17 - Tharu Lawmakers’ Unified Struggle Committee (TLUSC), Tharu Kalyankari Sabha and Tharuhat Joint Struggle Committee on Monday announced additional protest programmes to press their demand for Tharuhat/ Tharuwan province.

Organising a joint press conference in Singhadurbar, Kathmandu, on Monday, Tharu leaders from across the political spectrum announced their decision to call for a general strike in 22 districts along the Tarai plain for four more days starting from Tuesday.
“We have decided to continue the general strike as top four parties are turning a deaf ear to our demands,” said Raj Kumar Lekhi. Tharu lawmakers including Ramjanam Chaudhary, Aman Lal Modi, Rukmani Chaudhary, Janak Raj Chaudhary were present in the conference. Earlier, Tharu communities had enforced four-day general strike in the Tarai from Wednesday to Saturday.
Tharu’s protest coincides with the strike of Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM). The SLMM on Monday decided to enforce indefinite general strike. Both sides have extended support to each other’s demands.
