KATHMANDU, AUG 17 - As the two-day general strike called by 33-party alliance led by CPN-Maoist ends on Monday, the agitating Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha has announced that it would continue its protest programmes.

In a press statement issued on Monday, the Morcha said the general strike will be continued for an indefinite period in Madhes, and Tharuhat region.
Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum Nepal Chair Upendra Yadav, TMLP Chair Mahanta Thakur, Sadbahwana Chair Rajendra Mahato and Tarai Madhes Sadbhawana Chair Ram Naresh Raya issued a joint statement today. They accused the four major political parties of not complying with the past agreements and pushing the country towards regression. The Madhesi parties are against the six-state model in the new federal set-up.
The protesting leaders accused the government of suppressing the protest meant against the draft of new constitution that has overshadowed issues like ethnicity and identity, federalism, federal republic, inclusive democracy, and secularism, among others.
