The appeal from Oli comes at a time when the six-state federal model, agreed by the four major parties including UML, is being protested by the Tharu, indigenous and Madhesi communities in different parts of the country.
The UML chairman told the concerned lawmakers that the provinces were delineated based on public safety, access to administrative office and economic viability.
“The decision to demarcate the country into six provinces is tentatively a right decision. It is not possible to address the conflicting demands at the same time,” Oli said.
Oli also instructed the lawmakers to take their voters into confidence and convince them that the six-state model is the only way to address the demands of all sides.
Displeased with the state restructuring deal among the four major parties, people in Mid-Western Region, Tharus in Far-Western Region, Madhesi people are protesting in several parts of the country. In Surkhet district, people are protesting to press the demand of keeping Mid-Western Region intact while demarcating the federal boundaries. The Tharu community in Kailali and Kanchanpur, meanwhile, are also in protest demanding that Banke and Bardiya districts of Mid-Western Region should be merged with Kailali and Kanchanpur to form an autonomous province for the Tharu community.
Similarly, locals in Rukum are protesting the proposed division of the district in the six-state federal setup.
UML Chairman Oli has asked the lawmakers to have patience in final stage of the constitution promulgation, assuring that the unjust provision in the constitution will be corrected.
