JUMLA/JAJARKOT, AUG 14 - Jumla and Jajarkot have become the flashpoints of the protests taking place in Karnali and Bheri zones against the six-state federal set-up.

More than 30 people were injured in clashes with security personnel in the two districts on Thursday.
Demanding that Karnali zone should be delineated as a separate federal province without incorporating the districts in the Far Western Region, thousands of people staged a demonstration at the district headquarters.
Protesters also vandalised several government offices. About a dozen protesters were hurt in clashes with police.
The protesters accused police personnel of throwing stones at the rally participants who were marching towards the District Administration Office to
submit a letter of their demands to the Chief District Officer (CDO).
The protesters briefly detained four police officers for throwing stones at the rally the roof of a local temple. The officers were released in presence of CDO Dipendra Raj Poudel.
In Jajarkot, about two dozen demonstrators were injured in clashes with police. They were demanding for an undivided Mid-Western Region in the federal set-up.
Police resorted to baton-charge as the protesters attempted to enter the District Administration Office and District Development Committee.
Assistant Chief District Officer Shivaraj Sedhai said police were compelled to use force to stop the protesters who were vandalising the offices.
3 parties take out goodwill rally in Surkhet
SURKHET: Three major political parties—Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and UCPN (Maoist)—took out a goodwill rally to ease the tension at Birendranagar in Surkhet on Thursday. The rally converged into a corner meet at Buspark where the district leaders of the parties demanded that the Mid-Western Region should be named a separate state with Birendranagar as its provincial capital. The leaders also demanded the government to provide compensation to the families of the protesters who were killed in police firing a few days ago. Two persons have died and several others have been injured in police action since the demonstration against the six-state federal set-up started in Surkhet five days ago.
Tharuhat protest continues
DHANGADHI: The banda enforced by Tharu community continued in various western Tarai district on Thursday as well. Supporters of Tharu state took out a rally in Dhangadhi, the district headquarters of Kailali. They nearly clashed with the supporters of undivided Far-Western Region who were also staging a demonstration nearby. A large number of security personnel were mobilised to avert untoward incidents.
Banda in several places
Bandas enforced by Sanghiya Limbuwan Nepal in nine eastern districts across the Arun River and by Samyukta Madhesi Loktantrik Morcha in the districts like Rupandehi and Kapilvastu affected the daily life on Thursday. The banda s were enforced to protest the six-state federal set-up.
