DHANGADHI, AUG 03 - Dhangadhi Bazaar area in Kailali district has been inundated following the incessant rainfall since Saturday night. Some families were displaced as rainwaters entered their houses.
Chatakpur, Bishalnagar, Omshantitol, Santoshitol, Campusroad, Shivanagar, Hasanpur among other places were waterlogged. Security personnel rescued about 100 people and took them to safer locations. According to police, one Bhumika Baduwal of Dhangadhi -1 was rescued when she nearly drowned in floodwaters as she was fleeing her house. She was taken to Seti Zonal Hospital for treatment.
“We have rescued the people from the waterlogged houses along with their belongings. Rainwaters entered into the ground floor of the houses in the affected area,” said Superintendent of Police Bikram Chand. He said some 300 houses have been inundated in the area.
Factories, industries, educational institutions and the market places largely remained closed on Sunday. Traffic was also affected due to the inundation. The water level gradually receded as it stopped raining after noon. According to meteorological station in Attariya, Dhangadhi received 114 mm rainfall overnight. Similarly, a flashflood triggered by the heavy rainfall swept away three houses at Bhimdutta-9 in Kanchanpur. Floods also destroyed paddy planted in about four bighas of land in Khalla Masetti, said police.
Classes affected after flood damages school building

Classes at Gyanodaya Primary School of Lumle VDC in Kaski have been affected after the school building was badly damaged in Wednesday’s flood.
The school’s headmaster, Sadhakhar Paudel, said they were constructing temporary classrooms to resume the classes.
Rajan Rai, chairman of the School Management Committee said the classes will resume in two days from temporary classrooms. He added that they are also planning to purchase a land to build new school building.
The school has incurred property loss of nearly Rs 3.4 million in the flood. In the April 25 earthquake, the school’s old building was also damaged.
Meanwhile, Bhim Thapa, a Nepali citizen living in the US, has donated Rs 100, 000 to the flood-hit school.
Pokhara-Baglung Highway damaged.
Many sections of Pokhara-Baglung Highway have been damaged in recent floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall in Kaski district. The road has caved in and cracks have developed in dozens of places. Chief of Division Road Office Pokhara Narendra Subedi said vehicular movement along the highway could be obstructed any time.
