KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Tuesday evening held a telephonic conversation with the chairman of Tarai Madhes Democratic Party, Mahantha Thakur, and discussed the current political situation of the country and issues related to the constitution in the making.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Koirala, who is also the president of ruling party Nepali Congress, urged the agitating Madhes-based parties to come to the table for talks in order to resolve the political issues.
In response, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s secretariat, leader Thakur said his party received the invitation for talks and was positive towards negotiation.
Expressing discontent over the purported number and boundaries of the federal units, Madhesi parties have been staging agitation for about three weeks.
Many people, including security personnel and supporters of the movement, have been killed in violent agitation in several districts.
Thakur and the chairman of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, Upendra Yadav, had returned to the Capital yesterday itself.
The Prime Minister had tried to contact leader Yadav also.
As he was not accessible, according to Adhikari, Prime Minister Koirala called up FSFN leader and lawmakers Shivaji Yadav and asked the latter to convey his message to Chairman Yadav to come to the table for formal talks.
